House Of Rhythm plus Peacestreet live in concert at Sedel, Fri, 12 May 1995.
After Maroon Town (see here) in Schuur, this is the second time I meet Jeff Lucas. In 1996 I was on tour with Jeff for one month (see here).
This event is a very busy one for me. I am the manager of the event, as The Roots Connection it’s me to manage almost everything. Plus I am part of the warm-up band Peacestreet. You might think, this is not too bad? There was a fire in Sedel and the backstage is closed down. I have to cook and serve the band in the corridor.

Preparation
Jackie Song is my first choice as the cook. But when he arrives, I have no money to buy food for the band. Easy with Jackie. One hour of tap dancing in the streets of Luzern and he comes back with a bag full of money. It’s 150 Swiss Franks. Normally far not enough for a meal and catering for 10+ people. But Jackie makes it possible. I don’t know how.
Surprise at Sedel
Because of a fire a few days before, the backstage and the piano-bar is closed down. Jackie organise a Bunsen burner to be able to cook in the corridor. It’s amazing how Jackie works that out. The band was satisfied with chicken & rice.
The next surprise is, while I’m on stage, the club manager asks me to bring the band out of the corridor to another level, to another room. I’m just laughing and saying, that I’m right into a concert and can’t get out for a moment to bring the main act away from that provisory backstage to another. I can say now: I was pissed.
Peacestreet is warm-up
To bring enough people up to Sedel it is important to support with a local band. Peacestreet is a well seen act at that time. I have no memory of this concert, but this picture.
The t-shirt I’m wearing is from a store in Paris, where most of the Reggae artists went to buy merchandise and cloths for stage. The pants are my bicycle pants.

It’s nice to meet again with Jeff (bass) and Ralph (trumpet) after Maroon Town. I’ve seen House Of Rhythm in Bern before, but wasn’t backstage. I know how great they are.
