Ventilators & DJ Ras Claude at Wohlgroth Zurich 1993

Thursday night at the Wohlgroth Jazzclub in Zurich with DJ Ras Claude plus concert with Ventilators & Splash

Invited to a place, where the whole community is living illegal on that area. Wohlgroth is just a few days before the police will clean the area with a special team by helicopter. To enter this place for the first (and last) time is like entering a war zone. Yes, I’ve fear. I have my legendary suitcase with my records. It looks great in this place, but the entrance is quite scary and inside the area there is chaos. Then I see the entrance to Jazz-Keller. It goes downstairs and then I see Vesna. She planned that party and invitation.

Splash and Ventilators I know from different occasions.

The tiny stage was wooden and every bar was shaking. When I install the DJ-set it is very shaky. I take some boxes for bottles to settle the turn-tables a bit higher (three of them under each turn-table). There is no table to use. Can you imagine?

When I’m dancing too much, the needle flips away. So I’m dancing with my feet on the wooden bars… I remember not too many people on the dancefloor, but around the corner at the bar, there are more. When I play “Rudy, A Message To You” the dancefloor was full up. In the early hours I packed my things and left for the first train back to Luzern.

I have several engagements together with Ventilators (see here).

There is a nice article in the swiss media in German (Tages Anzeiger Blog) about Wohlgroth.

That was quite famous at that time, because, when you enter Zurich by train, this was the first you saw. Instead of Zürich it was “Zureich”, that means too rich. But the design was the same as the one from the railway. It was funny and I remember well.

Can you imagine I was feared when I entered this entrance? Taken from Tages Anzeiger blog. Photo: Gertrud Vogler/Sozialarchiv
