This is one of my favourite events I managed. The band was almost unknown. But they were big already. Coming from the eastern of Germany, Leipzig meant, that most of their time they spent behind the iron curtain. Leander Topp became the Pionear of the German dancehall with his label Germaican (but this started in 1999, in 1993 there was no label yet, but Messer Banzani) They had a smash hit with Peace Is Wonder.

At that time, this band was the funniest and celebrated ska band in Germany. Leander Topp was already arranging and producing.

The show
I remember the saxophonist who knew the circulation breath and played continually. Later before sleeping he told me about a dream to play a note for hours. Yes, the show was amazing. The audience was banned for the whole concert.
The Sedel was cooking and nobody left before the last note. It was one of these shows, that you’ll never forget. Leander Topp leads the pack in a brilliant way and the ladies liked that too. His cousin at the drums did also an amazing show. I don’t know who took the audience the most. And Hartmut on the saxophone did an wonderful job as well. What a smart band. But Leander Topp, I saw him as a rising star.
Funny fact. Three years later I met Jamaica Papa Curvin at the Skasplash in Hamburg. As the producer of Peace Is Wonder I didn’t made the link, but I remembered to have seen him at the Loreley Summer Jam in 1988.
Music
I was recording the show onto DAT. From the audience, but from a save place. It’s just a little bit of a feeling, that can be heard here.
After the show
I had no money and together with René we prepared the flat at Friedenstrasse 5. This flat is also known as Peacestreet. All over we placed some beds for the band. Before we left them for the rest of the short night, we’ve been talking a lot about music and stuff. We had such a great time.
Guestbook
They wrote, that they enjoyed the meetings with people and had great food experiences. It was great to be in Luzern.
Thanks a lot Leander and Thomas Topp together with the crew. We’ll never forget.
