I was in de audience at the Pink Floyd Open Air ’88 at Platz der Republik in Berlin on Thursday, 16 June 1988.
The audience was huge with about 500.000 people around the Platz der Republik just close to the still existing wall. Yes, the famous wall.
I remember, that I was all alone in this never ending masses of people. I mean, nobody was with me and I walked and walked through a sea of people. I haven’t talked to anybody. Can you imagine? Finally I was as close to the stage, to see with my own eyes the little musicians on stage. I can’t remember how many tunes I realized and enjoyed. But short after I had to find a toilet. I took almost too long to find a place for a pi. But then I was too far from the stage and was not willing to go back through all the masses. I decided to leave, before all of them.
I was walking half an hour through masses of people to come out of the area. The band was still playing when I was outside. The next day I stayed in the park and listend to the Nina Hagen show. I haven’t see her, but I heard everything sitting comfortably on a bench.
July 1984 I’ve seen the “Pros And Cons Of Hitchhiking” show of Roger Waters with Eric Clapton on guitar. I enjoyed that show much more, that was maybe the reason to leave the show before it’s end.
This Pink Floyd show remains the biggest concert I’ve ever been.
