The Roots Operator sound system featuring Johnny Godasher (Jamaica) at Africa Liberation Day, Saturday, 24th of May 1986 at Rote Fabrik, Zurich
Africa Liberation Day at Rote Fabrik. I don’t remember, if this was my first visit at Rote Fabrik, but in the 80’s Zurich was hot and sometimes burning fire hot. This flyer was bigger than typical flyers.
I’m not sure, if this was my first sound system night. But Sergio Galli better known as The Roots Operator had his full sound system installed upstairs in Rote Fabrik and it was amazing. I mean, I never felt something like that. My pants were shaking. My hat was shaking. The bass was that massive, my whole body was concerned. But even the sound was on such a high level of bass and drum impulses it was easily possible to talk to each other with just a regular loudness. That was weird. It was new too. And in that completely strange situation the Roots Operator had this knob, were the sound was boosted even more. It was almost too much, but seriously it was an adventure and completely different from everything I was in before that.
The Roots Operator had a busy time in the later 80’s and beginning of the 90’s. But it was in 1998 when I performed with my flute at a Roots Operator dance. And around that same time, when I selected one hour with the Roots Operator sound system.
I have seen the Roots Operator many times:
